Vitkovice Landek Technické museum

  • Dolní Vítkovice is now a technical museum, but used to be in full production when I lived in Ostrava. One of the reasons one could never wear white clothes outside.
  • The only place where a mine and iron ore processing plant were part of the same object.

  • Mining museum Landek. Highest quality coal used to be mined here before Ostrava mines were closed when coal prices dropped. They would be profitable today, but were sealed in such a way that reopening is close to impossible. Of course thats why we can wear light clothes around the town now. The industry was a dirty influence in the city.

  • Prehistoric people lived in this area. The old miner was telling us that they were using coal for their fires beause it was coming all the way to the surface.

  • Those are hooks used by the miners for storing their work clothes. The guide told us that was the only way to get the clothes somewhat dry between shifts. Hard work.
